| In 1854 one remembered demolish the walls of the city and a squared layout designed by engineer Ildefons Cerdà for the extension of the city was chosen. This zone contains a great amount of modernist buildings. |
The Eixample is crossed by two great cross-sectional streets, the Great one Via of Catalan them Corts and the Avenue Diagonal, and has its center in the Stroll of Grace, where are the most significant modernist buildings, excepting the Sagrada Family. The most famous set of modernist buildings of Barcelona is located in the stroll of Gràcia between the streets Aragó and Consell de Cent, and is a sample of the different architectonic tendencies from the moment. Nº 35 is the house Lleò Morera, of Domènech i Montaner, a little advanced more, we found the Amatller house designed by Puig i Cadafalch and the Batlló house, work of Gaudí. In nº92 of passeig of Gràcia it is famous house Milá, well-known like the Stone quarry, one of main works of Gaudí. The Great one via of Catalan them Corts, compares to the sea, is the longest avenue of the city. The Boulevard of Catalonia has great terraces in the shade of flowery trees and magnificent restaurants. |
