| The city, most European of Spain, is one of oldest cities the, founded with the name of Barcino at the time of the Romans one century before JC. It is the capital of Catalonia, its population rises with 1.600.000 people |
| Cosmopolitan par excellence, it succeeded in keeping his authenticity, Barcelona has all the assets to attract the tourists of the whole world with his multiple facets. Barcelona lost its municipal mode because of the war of succession and the triumph of Borbons (1714). The population increases quickly inside the walls until the XIX century when authorizations of constructions to more than 2 km of the walls were given. During the 30 years which follow, Barcelona develops at any speed with the tower of the Citadel which surrounds the villages of Horta, Sarrià, Sants, Pedralbes, Gracia, etc.... In 1888 it is the first World Fair in the Citadel and in 1929 the second in Montjuic during one time in full industrial expansion animated by the appearance of the modern architecture. The cathedral is currently with the site where settled the Romans at the time, on the Taber mount. One must await the 1ème century so that Barcelona is transformed into capital of Catalonia and seat of the Confederation (Aragon).Mais Catalonia, as from this century the city develops enormously and reaches all its splendour, so much from economic point of view than cultural (Gothic art) Montjuic east strengthens and one builds the district of Barceloneta. Barcelona extends on the North-eastern coast from Spain and it is delimited by the hills of Vallvidrera, Montjuic and Tibidabo. Crossed by important motorways which form an axis of communication very useful with the airport of Prat for 18km in the south. Currently, Barcelona is a splendid and very animated city, where it makes good food thanks to its climatic environment and with its important cultural activity, equipped with several museums, theatres, concert halls and Opera. It is also a great industrial and university center and has a port of a ceaseless activity. The city developed on the urban level thanks to the last Olympic Games of 1992 for which, a ring road was arranged as well as a part of the coast where residential districts saw the jour(ancian port). The center of Barcelona (compound of buildings of modern architecture) was creates at the XIX century in agreement with the projects of "Idelfonso Cerdà" (1859), its geometrical plan with parallel and perpendicular streets at the seaside has square forms called "manzanas" (apples) and crossed by two large diagonals: "Meridiana" and "the Diagonal one" which joins to the place of "Mow Glorias Catalanas". |
| PS : The center is very animated, with its overlapping and picturesque lanes, of the popular districts and their coffee terraces, its de luxe hotels of southerly wind and their single architecture. |
