| The countryside of the Costa Daurada can be defined as one of great contrasts. There are unspoilt areas of great beauty and interest: to the south, the Delta del Ebre Nature Park and the Ports de Tortosa-Besseit National Reserve, and to the west, the Prades Mountains. |

Costa Daurada - Puerto Cambrils On the coast we also find great contrasts, with light as the common denominator. There are towns that have grown up offering a wide variety of services and facilities designed to satisfy the most discerning visitor. Some of these former fishing villages have become real tourist "meccas". We can, however, still find small towns where the main source of income is the sea, whose growth is orderly and controlled and where the objective is to preserve the best of the bygone days of these typical |
fishing ports.. The beaches are long and wide and slope gently into the sea, with few rocky outcrops. The sand is fine, golden and clean, as are the clear waters of the sea. Two main railways lines pass through the Costa Daurada. One follows the coastline from the French border to the south of Spain and the other crosses the inland counties in the direction of Zaragoza. Larger towns have stations with the usual facilities and smaller villages usually have a simple platform with no facilities. In this land of sea, ports and fishermen, it is not surprising that in recent years there has been a proliferation of facilities for leisure craft. The calm waters of the Mediterranean are ideal for enjoying the sea and the Costa Daurada provides good ports where you can take on provisions, make a stopover or safely moor your boat during the months, weeks or days when you are unable to get away to enjoy your favourite pastime - sailing on the sea. The cuisine of the Costa Daurada is a refection of the Mediterranean, of a land and its people, and of their spirit and their art. Here we find dishes combining vegetables with meat and fish, with fruit and wine, that are at once simple and a delight to the palate. |
