| The monastery of Poblet is one of but the important samples of religious architecture in Catalonia. Located to the foot of the Mountain range of Prades, it is raised impressive between culture fields. The monastery was founded by Ramon Berenguer IV, count of Barcelona that donated earth at your service Cistercians and was occupied by monks coming from the French abbey of Fontfroide. Poblet was place of favourite rest of the kings of Aragon, real pantheon and cultural centre of first magnitude. Its library was one of but important of the time and as all the Cistercians monasteries were I authenticate town with all the necessary services for the community. The declivity of the monastery begins in century XVI to end up vacating itself in 1835, date of the Desmortizacion. The restoration began in 1930 returning to be lived by a Cistercians community from 1940. |

Monastery of Poblet - Puerta Real The set this constituted by three enclosures partially walled. Passed the first wall, the chapel of Sant Jordi, constructed by Alfonso V of Aragon rises to commemorate the conquest of Napoles. In the second wall one opens Porta Daurada, and in third, Porta Reial. To the right is the facade baroque of the church, and to the other side of the door locutorio, of century XV. Monastery of Poblet - Retablo the refectory, in front of which a románica source rises, the room of the heating, the old library and the room are opened to capitulate. In the high part of claustro one is the enormous dormitory of the beginners and the file. To the other side is the Palau of King Martí, who never got to conclude. The church dates from centuries XII and XIII and consists of three ships with apse and girola. A beautiful Renaissance altarpiece of Damià Forment can be seen and in the side of the gospel, the recovered tombs of some kings of Corona de Aragon: Jaume I, Pere IV and its three spouses, Ferran I, Alfonso II, Joan I and her two spouses, Joan II and Juana Enríquez, parents of Fernando the Catholic. Also the tombs of Alfonso are in the church the Maganimo and Martin the Human. |
